Dedicating a tofu dish to all the women in the world

Tofu is also known as bean curd and made by coagulating soya milk .This curd is then pressed into soft white blocks to form what we know as tofu.Tofu can be made to be soft, firm and extra firm.
It has a subtle flavor and can be used to prepare both sweet and savory dishes.
Tofu is a rich source of amino acids ,iron and calcium. Incorporating tofu in our daily lives ensures a diet rich in nutrients. Tofu being a rich source of proteins has found its place in the Buddhist form of diets.

In terms of the nutritional

Since tofu is derived from Soymilk it is a rich source of isoflavones. Isoflavones are known to have an impact on the low density lipids proteins or the bad cholesterol present in our blood. A regular diet of tofu decreases the risk of cardio vascular diseases. (source : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tofu#Nutrition_and_health_information)
Over the years a number of researchers have been working on the effects of tofu on our bodies. Here are some of the finds.
-Tofu is a good source of selenium it  protects our system from colon cancer.
- Eating tofu reduces the risk of prostrate cancer amongst men
- Eating good amounts of tofu makes women 60% less likely to have ‘high risk’ breast tissues than women who eat less or do not eat tofu
- Tofu has a high dose of calcium content which is helpful by women when they reach menopause.
- Eating Tofu is effective  in slowing down the aging process.
- Tofu consumption helps retain the elasticity of the skin and tones the facial muscles which prevents aging.
- Eating Tofu is effective  during pre-menopausal stage when there is an imbalance in the oestrogen levels.
- Tofu It helps reduce hot flashes. It prevent the high bone-loss risk related to menopause
- Eating Tofu is effective in preventing rheumatoid arthritis
- Making a paste of tofu and applying it on your face is a good way to nourish the skin.
- Eating tofu helps prevent hair loss and enhances hair growth as it is a rich source of proteins and helps hair make more keratin

So much for the nutritional benefits of tofu but how to incorporate tofu in our daily diets?
I can think a number of exotic and mouth watering dishes that I can make with tofu. However the fact that eating tofu can be used by women to supplement their daily dosage of calcium, iron and amino acids. So in this post I would I to make tofu a bit more acceptable in our households by replacing cottage cheese or paneer by tofu to prepare shahi tofu just as we make the dish of shahi paneer. There can be a number of variations in making the dish .I am going to follow here a very simple method that will help me make a dish of tofu with very little preparation or cooking time.
Ingredients for making Shahi Tofu
Tofu 200 g. :This servers 3 to 4 people

A big tomato, jeera or cumin seeds, 2 cloves of garlic (optional), 1 teaspoon of grated Ginger, 1 Onion cut into small pieces(optional) ,Salt to taste. 1 spoon of olive or any other cooking oil that you use.
Dice the tofu into small cubes

Add all the ingredients except the tofu in a blender add water and blend till a uniform puree is formed.

Pour the puree in a cooking pan and add a table spoon of olive olive and let the gravy cook till it begins to simmer then add the diced tofu cubes into the hot gravy.
Put gravy in cooking pan and some cooking/olive oil

Let the gravy simmer on low heat till it is well cooked
Add tofu cubes to the simmering gravy and let it cook for a few minutes

Let the tofu cook in the simmering gravy for a few minutes .
Serve hot and enjoy as such or with bread of your choice .

discovering the easy steps of cleaing my home

I have a hectic work schedule that leaves me with very little time for myself. Over the weekend I attend to my weekly chores like shopping for groceries and paying bills etc this leaves me with very little time for cleaning my home. Let me tell you a bit more about my place which is a single persons home and thus gets very less attention when it comes to cleaning. As I am out of the house throughout the day it becomes very difficult to monitor the maid who comes to clean in my absence. Yet I do desire to live in a clean house and my search for implementing a cleanliness regime to make and maintain a clean home led me to
I was fascinated by the simplicity of the tips and decided to give it a try.
Firstly the idea of getting together with friends to collectively clean the premises is great and to implement it me and my two other friends decided to have a spring cleaning spree from my home itself. I call it a spring cleaning spree because my home was in a dire need of cleaning and a campaign no less then the swatch Bharat abhiyan was needed to make it clean and tidy. However knowing my friends well I decided to keep the drinks menus limited to soft drinks, lemonade and aam ras . Had I included any hard drinks we would have partied hard with very little cleaning done or have further added to the mess.
We guys had a blast cleaning to the tune of old Kishore kumar, Manna Dey  and Md Rafi hits. Then when we were getting a bit tired I switched the tracks to Elvis Presley’s hit numbers and soon me and my gang was dancing and singing to hits like jail house rock as we cleaned and dusted the house.
However cleaning and dusting was not all that needed to be done. I had lots of old clothes and stuff that I am never going to use . Taking a cue from the article   https://www.rewardme.in/home/home-decor/article/5-simple-surprising-cleaning-tips-youll-love
I tossed the old clothes in the washing machine and once they were dry and clean we packed all the stuff in separate boxes so that I could drop it at an old age home nearby.

After finishing the cleaning when we looked around the house looked tidy and livable once again. So we decided upon a schedule to organize such house cleaning parties by rotation at each of our homes. With cleaning taken care of we decided to go for a long drive and after that we treated ourselves to a movie and a dinner. I must say that what appeared as an uphill task had been made quite enjoyable and rewarding due to the tips present here

Putting the 10 minute recipe to test

Our lives are getting busier day by day as a result we find little time for the little joys of life. Our lives are becoming mechanical and monotonous. Everything is becoming assembly line . Last week my boss came over for dinner with his wife. I was living alone so I had ordered all the food beforehand. During our conversation I came to know that it also happened to be the birthday of the wife of my boss which was just a day before their visit to my place. Not to miss this opportunity I decided to score some brownie points . I thought of ordering a birthday cake for her so I called up the local bakery and that’s the time I realized that it was the weekly off for the  local market. As it seemed that my plan was going to go kaput I tried to search online and order a cake delivery scheduled . Trying to place the order I realized that the bakery offering online delivery was at the other side of the city and as they bake and serve fresh products it needed at least 3 to 4 hours for the delivery to be executed. By chance I happened to reach the page   https://www.rewardme.in/food/baking-recipes/recipe/10-minute-microwave-cake
I was surprised to find that a cake can be baked in a short span of ten minutes. Since I have an open kitchen I started the process of making the cake with an attempt to bake a cake and also get in the good books of my boss.
The first step to cook anything are the ingredients. I had to check if I had everything with me .
The ingredients required were
250ml (140g) cake flour
    250ml (220g) castor sugar
    20ml baking powder
    40ml cocoa powder
    250ml warm water
    5ml vanilla essence
    2 large eggs,
    beaten 62ml
    sunflower oil 90g
    dark chocolate, broken into pieces
    15-25ml evaporated milk, or cream
I quickly checked and to my relief I had all the ingredients at home. I felt my luck was smiling on me.
I had to buy time to finish my cake or make a realistic attempt to finish it . So I served the dessert and got down to preparing to cook.
It was a four step process and I embarked upon the relatively easy first step of greasing the tray.
The second step involved mixing all the ingredients that is the flour, castor sugar, baking powder and 2ml salt together. I mixed the cocoa powder with the warm water until smooth then added the vanilla essence. Added the eggs and oil and mixed everything well. All this process was simple and did not take very long.
Now it was the time to proceed to the third step of pouring the mix into the pan. As it was also the time for me to finish the baking.
By this time my guests were midway through the dessert and I was not sure if my cooking experiment would get completed in time. To buy time I put on the kettle to make some tea and simultaneously put the microwave safe baking pan in the microwave .
I set the temperature to the max as given in the instructions and joined my guests for the dessert.
In a few minutes time as the tea got made I served it to my boss and his wife. Just than the timer of the microwave went off and I excused myself to examine my experiment in cooking.
I used a knife to check if the cake was baked properly. I was pleased to find that when I pulled out the knife it came out clean indicating that it was properly baked.
Now was the ultimate test for me to see if the cake can be taken out without breaking it. With a baited breath I turned it onto a plate and the cake came out clean .
I served the fresh cake to my boss and his wife who liked it a lot.
My 10 minute recipe had passed the test.

A Zillion Hugs For my Dad

When I appeared for the first time on stage in a school play I had a very small role and just a single line dialog. Yet when I delivered it fumbling and shaking out of nervousness there was a loud clapping sound in the audience and this made me feel confident and self assured.

When I looked up to see who was the single person clapping and rooting for me I found it to be my dad who was enthusiastically cheering and appreciating his five year old son’s that is my performance. He was so happy seeing me perform as if I had just delivered an Oscar winning performance.
As I got off the stage after my performance my father came running towards me and greeted me with a hug. A hug that was so warm and I as a young boy, a first grader felt so protected in his strong and masculine arms.

As I grew older I found that a few children my age had bicycles . My father was of the view that trying out new things are a part of growing up so out of the money that he had saved from his overtime , he bought me a red gleaming bicycle .
He ran behind my bike supporting  me relentlessly day after day till I learned to balance and drive the bicycle. On the journey of learning there were many hugs that I received from him. Some to encourage me to try harder and others to console me after a bad fall. His hugs and support were a constant companion.
Growing up further I found the skateboard very fascinating and before even I could ask for it my father got one for me and I thanked him with a hug.
I felt that he enjoyed hugging me as much as I enjoyed hugging him. The warmth was mutual. Although whenever I wanted something I would go up to him wrap my relatively smaller arms around him and he would always read my mind and asked me what I wanted.
In all these years, I don’t remember If he had asked for anything from me in return. He hugged me because he cared for me and loved me.
As I grew up further I moved out of the house to attend college. The day I was leaving for college he hugged me in a warm embrace that lasted longer than usual. Perhaps he knew that he would not be able to hug me any time often soon. As I was an adult ready to embark on a new journey of my life or perhaps it was an embrace with the touch and warmth to protect me from the big bad world outside. As time went by I graduated from college and took up my first job. Time few fast and I got very little time to spend with my father. Even the warm Hug did not happen for a very long time.
Recently when I saw a colleague of mine embrace his new born child in a warm gentle hug I saw the child’s eye glow up with happiness and this sight made me realize what I would have felt when I was embraced by my father for the first time . Looking back at my childhood days and all my interactions with my father I feel that there are very few things that can stir up the feeling of being protected for a person when he or she is in the company of a doting father. For a child getting a hug from his or her father means different things. Sometimes it is the feeling of love and warmth and sometimes it is being protected   .However for a father it is his way of showing his unconditional love and support for his child. Now that I am grown up I feel it’s very important to reciprocate my dad’s unconditional love with a hug. For it is the best way and language to convey love and to say that we stand for each other and I shall continue to love him and cherish every moment spent with him. If I were to hug my dad for every moment that he has stood with me and for me then it would be a zillion hugs and counting

Where words fail A hug Speaks

My father is a great person and a great thinker. I am extremely close to my Dad. I aspire to be like him. He always stands up for the people and ideas he believes in. My dad is super supportive. He always helped me in every step of my life. He is my lifeline. I love you dad. He is my strength. He taught me about life and how to face difficult situations. He laughed with me and spent a lot of time with me.
He started from the scratch and emerged successful in his business and encouraged me in every way possible. I owe what I am today, entirely to him. He is my first coach, my teacher, my protector. He is a very good cook & a wonderful artist. He tries his best to keep our family happy. He works hard to make money for our family.
My dad always analyses the situation and then acts accordingly. He maintains a balance between his personal and professional life. His ability to guide our home and family through a difficult situation by the virtue of a cool head makes him a superhero. He went through a financial crisis but he did not let me know about his problems. He always gave me his usual smiles due to which I never came to know about his hardships and worries. One day for my college project I required a laptop. I mentioned this to my father at the dinner table. I told him that as I don’t have my own laptop I am not able to complete my projects on time. He silently heard but didn’t say any thing. After two days I found a brand new laptop in my room. I ran to papa's room and hugged him. He affectionately patted my back and told me he would do anything to make me happy and there would be no compromises in my education. Later I came to know that he broke his FD to fulfill my need.
He is the one who is always there with me, helping me, guiding me, correcting me, pampering me. He teaches me some tough lessons so my life would be easier later on. When with him I find myself the happiest person in this world. Father plays a vital role in every child's life. I admire my fathers good judgment, his keen intelligence, do the right thing' attitude, and kindness. He has constantly encouraged me to work hard and do my best most of all through all the situations. I love the fact that lately he has been more affectionate and he hugs me more than he used to. My dad is simply awesome. So today on Fathers day I wish to hug you and tell you how much I love you.
